Introduction
The state department of housing and urban development in
partnership with the county government of Homa Bay have undertaken a major
infrastructure development project to improve roads, footpaths, drainage,
lighting, water, sanitation and social amenities across several settlements.
The Phase 1 contract covers upgrade works in Makongeni, Shauri Yako, Sofia, A
Thousand Street, Nyandiwa and Rusinga Old Town. The National government received funding from the World Bank towards funding the project.
Economic Benefit
By rehabilitating and expanding local transportation networks, water systems, power grids and community facilities, the project will provide an enabling environment for economic expansion in these areas. Improved infrastructure capacity will allow businesses and housing development to flourish, generate employment and empower residents to pursue productive economic activities.
