Introduction
Governor Gladys Wanga has implemented a new cashless revenue collection system in Homa Bay county, resulting in an increase in revenue collection. The system was launched on October 4, 2022, and county residents can make payments through a short-code or Pay Bill. A Revenue Board has been established to take charge of revenue collection, and a taskforce on Revenue Administration has been formed to streamline revenue administration and mapping.
Economic Benefit
The new cashless revenue collection system has resulted in an increase in revenue collection, with Ksh200 million raised between October and November compared to Ksh137 million collected in the previous financial year. The ban on cash transactions and centralization of county services have also contributed to this increase. The establishment of a Revenue Board and the fact-finding exercise conducted by the taskforce on Revenue.
Citizen Benefit
Residents of Homa Bay county can now make payments for county services through the cashless system, which provides more convenience for obtaining single business permits. The ban on cash transactions and warning against unauthorized methods of revenue collection also help to promote transparency and accountability in the county government, benefiting citizens.
