Introduction
The County Government of Homa Bay has implemented a
rainwater harvesting system in Lorateng primary school, West Karachuonyo Ward. This project
provides the local community with a sustainable water source by collecting and
storing rainfall for use.
Economic Benefit
Rainwater
harvesting addresses several key challenges - water scarcity, economic
limitations, and environmental sustainability. The Lorateng system enables
residents to secure their water needs through a renewable, cost-effective local
source independent of public utilities. This increases resilience against
droughts.
Citizen Benefit
For citizens in West Karachuonyo, rainwater harvesting
enhances their quality of life tremendously. With on-site water access,
families save considerable time and effort previously spent fetching water from
distant sources. The storage system provides water security for domestic needs,
small-scale agriculture, and income-generating activities. By implementing this
sustainable community solution, the County demonstrates its commitment to
climate-resilient development that empowers and uplifts residents economically
and socially.
