Introduction
The County Government of Homa Bay has rolled out a KES 215 million fund to support students in high school, vocational training, college and university across the county's 40 wards. The bursary program was launched in Rangwe sub-county and will provide financial aid to over 32,000 high schoolers, 1,200 vocational trainees through the GENOWA Fundi Mang’ula Scholarship, and 240 university students via the Fins to Swim Scholarship.
Economic Benefit
By subsidizing education costs, this initiative cultivates skilled labor and expands knowledge essential for future economic growth. The investment in developing human capital will empower youth to become innovators and entrepreneurs, filling labor needs and driving productivity gains across Homa Bay. A well-educated populace attracts investment, spurs business activity and raises living standards.
Citizen Benefit
For recipients, the bursaries deliver immense socio-economic benefits on an individual level. They provide access to education that families could not otherwise afford, creating opportunities for self-reliance and social mobility. Supporting Homa Bay's students ultimately uplifts the entire community. This program exemplifies the county government's commitment to nurturing talent and unlocking the potential of youth to transform the county.
