The County Government of Homa Bay, in partnership with Population Council Kenya through the Evidence for Gender and Resource (EGER) initiative, has launched the Homa Bay County Gender in Education Action Plan, aimed at addressing gender-related challenges in education through locally responsive solutions.
The Action Plan seeks to translate evidence into practical interventions while strengthening coordination, ownership and accountability among education stakeholders. It is expected to guide efforts towards promoting equitable and inclusive education across the county.
The launch highlighted existing gender disparities in education, including higher primary school completion rates among girls compared to boys, alongside declining secondary school completion rates for both girls and boys.
Aligned with the Education Sector Gender Policy 2026, the Action Plan provides a strategic framework for addressing these challenges and ensuring that interventions are coordinated, evidence-based and responsive to the needs of learners.
The initiative brings together the county government and key stakeholders to support targeted interventions that can improve retention, completion and educational outcomes for both girls and boys in Homa Bay County.
