Governor Gladys Wanga today commissioned the rehabilitated Awach Tende Rural Water Intake Scheme, breathing new life into the Kanyaluo Water Project that now supplies clean, safe and reliable water to over 5,000 households.

Established in 1977 and last upgraded in 1998, the scheme had deteriorated over the years, leaving residents grappling with acute shortages. The County Government of Homa Bay has now fully restored it at a cost of Kshs 17 million.

The project is a key pillar of the County's broader transformational agenda to secure water for the greater Rachuonyo region. Governor Wanga affirmed that her administration is accelerating last-mile connectivity to ensure no household is left behind, with additional supply set to be drawn from the Kendu Bay and West Karachuonyo water projects.

Already, 3.9km of new pipeline has been laid, with water flowing at community points in Omboga, Jamna, Adiedo and Orire. Similar community projects have been completed in Kawakungu, Kabok and Kaol.
