Homa Bay County has achieved a major milestone in strengthening specialized healthcare with the arrival of chemotherapy machines and essential oncology equipment at Homa Bay Teaching and Referral Hospital (HBTRH).

This delivery marks a decisive step toward operationalizing a fully functional, comprehensive Oncology Unit within the county.

For years, local families facing a cancer diagnosis had to navigate gruelling journeys to distant referral centers in Kisumu or Nairobi. These trips placed heavy financial, physical, and emotional burdens on patients during an already challenging time.

Once fully installed and commissioned, the unit will change that reality completely:

  • Care Closer to Home: Patients will access timely, high-quality chemotherapy locally, reducing travel costs and fatigue.

  • Streamlined Treatment: On-site specialized equipment ensures prompt diagnosis and continuous therapy without long waiting lists.

  • Dignified Support: Local treatment allows patients to heal surrounded by their families and immediate support systems.

By bringing life-saving cancer care closer to the community, Homa Bay reaffirms its commitment to delivering accessible, dignified, and world-class healthcare services for every resident. Installation is currently underway, with full operationalization expected soon.
