The County Government of Homa Bay continues to prioritize the growth and transformation of the Boda Boda sector as a critical pillar of the local economy and a major source of employment for thousands of residents.

Today, H.E. Deputy Governor Hon. Danish Onyango chaired a high-level consultative meeting bringing together Boda Boda leaders from all the county’s 11 sub-counties. The engagement provided a platform to review the progress of the 40 registered Boda Boda SACCOs, address emerging challenges facing operators, and explore strategies for strengthening the sector.

The discussions focused on enhancing SACCO governance, promoting unity among operators, improving access to economic opportunities, and strengthening service delivery across the transport industry. Participants also deliberated on measures to improve financial sustainability, safety standards, and the overall welfare of riders.

With more than 54,000 riders earning their livelihoods from the sector, the Deputy Governor emphasized the County Government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that empower operators and enhance their contribution to economic growth.

He noted that the Boda Boda industry plays a vital role in transportation, trade facilitation, job creation, and connectivity across both rural and urban areas. The meeting reaffirmed the county administration’s resolve to work closely with stakeholders in building a more organized, prosperous, and sustainable Boda Boda sector that contributes meaningfully to the socio-economic transformation of Homa Bay County.
