About this Document

The Second Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Program, funded by the World Bank, is being implemented across 33 counties, with Homa Bay County among the beneficiaries in the infrastructure component. The program aims to improve the living conditions of slum dwellers.


Infrastructure upgrades will take place in six informal settlements: Shauri Yako, Makongeni, Sofia, 1000 Streets in Oyugis, Nyandiwa, and Rusinga. These settlements will benefit from the following improvements:

- Upgrading several roads to bitumen standards.

- Enhancing water reticulation systems in Shauri Yako and Rusinga.

- Installing solar high masts for better lighting.

- Constructing vending platforms for local vendors in Shauri Yako and Nyandiwa

- Improving drainage systems to manage storm water.

- Installing solar street lights for improved security and energy efficiency.

Given the nature of these projects, an Environmental Impact Assessment and Resettlement Action Plan were conducted by GA Consultants. The reports can be accessed via the link below:
