Homa Bay County has marked a significant milestone in the transformation of its agricultural sector through a high-level Digital Agriculture Data Systems Stakeholder Workshop convened by the Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Development. The workshop, held in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and supported by the Embassy of Sweden, brought together government officials, development partners, technical experts, and private sector players to advance the county’s digital agriculture agenda.
The engagement focused on strengthening the integration and utilization of the Kenya Integrated Agricultural Management Information System (KIAMIS), enhancing farmer profiling, and improving data governance frameworks. Stakeholders explored ways of building a unified and interoperable digital system that will support accurate data collection, real-time analytics, and informed decision-making across the agricultural value chain.
By aligning data systems and improving coordination, the county aims to drive evidence-based planning, enhance efficiency in service delivery, and promote climate-smart agricultural practices. The initiative is expected to empower farmers, livestock keepers, fishers, and agribusiness communities with timely and reliable information, ultimately boosting productivity and resilience.
This milestone underscores the County Government’s commitment to leveraging technology and partnerships to modernize agriculture, strengthen food systems, and secure sustainable livelihoods for its people.
