Governor Gladys Wanga met with British High Commissioner Neil Wigan on Tuesday, discussing potential partnerships in investment, agriculture, and healthcare.
Both leaders highlighted the ongoing collaboration between Homa Bay and the UK through Population Services Kenya (PSK) to improve reproductive health outcomes.
While speaking at a joint press conference with the High Commissioner, Governor Wanga expressed appreciation for PSK's efforts in tackling high teenage pregnancy rates and maternal mortality.
"We are pleased with the work of PSK on reproductive health because Homa Bay is one of the counties that have the highest levels of teenage pregnancies, infant and maternal mortalities,” Wanga said.
The county boss invited UK participation in the upcoming Homa Bay County International Investment Conference (HOBIIC) later this month, aiming to attract investment in cotton, edible oil, horticulture, and aquaculture.
She emphasized a potential partnership with United Green Group, a major UK agribusiness firm.
High Commissioner Wigan pledged technical support, a delegation, and encouragement for British firms to explore investment opportunities in Homa Bay.
Wigan commended the existing partnership in health and conservation, highlighting its importance to socio-economic development. He emphasized HOBIIC's potential to bring prosperity to the people of Homa Bay.
"The upcoming Investment Conference will be a chance to bring prosperity to the people of Homa Bay,” Wigan stated.
Governor Wanga expressed gratitude for UK support and pledged her administration's commitment to unlocking further partnership opportunities for Homa Bay.
