Fun, Glamour and Thrill Lined Up for Piny Luo Fete
Homa Bay County is already abuzz with the upcoming Piny Luo cultural extravaganza with the celebrations slated for this Friday through Saturday.
Luo Nation Cultural Extravaganza is an event that is aimed at bringing together the Luo Community through a convergence of various stakeholders within the community, to reignite in members of the community, a spirit of resourcefulness, productivity, and togetherness, in the wake of the challenging socio-economic and political circumstances bedeviling the Nation and world at the moment.
The extravaganza will involve prayers, a cultural exhibition of traditional artefacts, foods and medicine, sports, and tourism among others. There will also be folk tales reminding the community of the sojourns of their forefathers whose determination, morality, productivity, and togetherness despite existent threats during their times, made them who they are today as a community � revered by the admirers and scorned by detractors.
H.E the Right Honorable Raila Amolo Odinga is expected to lead the celebrations in a fully packed itinerary that will see him preside over the official opening of the new County Government Headquarters, the county stadium named after him as well as the newly constructed recreational park within Homa Bay Town.
Other highlights of the bonanza include the unveiling of the new leadership of the Luo Council of Elders, including the installation of the council's new chairperson to replace the late Ker Wilson Otondi, an all-night blasts from the Luo contemporary musicians and a sold-out night gala of storytelling and folklore. The ultimate climax of the event will be a football exhibition match on Saturday between the newly crowned Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia and the Luo Nyanza Combined 11.
Homa Bay High School, St. Ambrose Secondary School, Tom Mboya University, the county stadium and the park will host various events at different stages of the two-day fanfare. The country expects to host thousands of cultural enthusiasts mostly of Luo extraction from far and wide, as well as community, religious and political leaders from the four Nyanza counties predominantly occupied by the Luos - Homa Bay, Migori, Siaya and Kisumu.
